Most people do not realize the number of issues the industry faces. Even the top antivirus software can be a challenge. While some are minor and can be fixed quickly, other issues are more serious.
One of the major issues is that virus signatures do not provide enough to protect against a large number of threats. It takes antivirus companies an extended time to release anti-virus updates when new viruses are discovered. They have to wait until the virus is identified by their products before sending it to be analysed.
In the meantime, the virus is likely to spread, and it’s highly likely that dozens or hundreds of computers will be affected by the new virus. It may also extend to other networks. Anti-virus software must be able to detect and stop these infections. This means that behavior blocking or heuristic analysis tools are more effective than simple signature detection.
Incompatibility is yet another issue. Although the majority of antivirus software developers concentrate on developing high-quality products and removing bugs, it is true that different antivirus programs can sometimes create conflicts.
